The rent is too damn high!
You may have noticed yellow and blue painted boxes with our questionnaire about the current rent situation (and maybe you filled one out). Since the spring of this year we have been distributing these surveys in the Schiller, Körner and Warthekiez with the support of Bars, Spätis and Cafes who hosted our boxes.
Every box carries the text "Die verdammte Miete ist zu hoch! Kiralar hayvan gibi artti! The rent is too damn high!" This dramatic statement has unfortunately come to represent the new reality for increasing numbers of residents. Nearly half of all survey respondents in the neighborhoods along Hermannstraße have been subject to a rent increase in the last two years. "The rent is too damn high!" is also the title of our informative gathering this coming Tuesday.
Along with our presentation of acute real-estate trends, Joachim Oellerich of the Berlin Tenants Rights Association will give an overview of coming developments in the local rental market resulting from the latest election results.
Finally, we will discuss experiences in resisting economic pressure and possible forms of protest in our buildings, neighborhoods and beyond. Because this is our city!
